A biting post-war satire about a boy with big ambitions who is determined to create his own luck.

Born to a destitute family in the village of Salla, Askeli is given up by his own mother. But Askeli is determined to make his own luck, fuelled by a thirst for life and belief that he can become rich. A part-time job selling fish at his local marketplace inspires him to start a fishing business in Norway, which is soon thriving. But will Askeli’s luck eventually run out?
